Oregon Sunstone Mining Claims For Sale
At this time there are no claims for sale
Sunstone Mining Company operates an extensive number of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) mining claims located in the high desert of southern Oregon. The sunstone mining area is approximately 27 miles northeast of Plush, Oregon. At the present time we have a limited number of recorded Mining Claims that we are offering for sale. We have claims located on both the east and west side of the Public Collection Area.
All BLM claims are "Lode" type claims. These claims measure 1500 x 600 feet which equates to 20.6 acres. None of the claims offered have had any type of commercial operations on them. This means that they have not been mined or mined out. Currently claim prices are $8,000 to $40,000. All claims have sunstone showing on the surface. Claims that have been tested for quality, color and yield, will demand a higher price. The proven claims that are currently in operation have found sunstone in various layers from the surface to 40 feet. On claims without current test pits Sunstone Mining Company makes no guarantees as to the depth which you will find sunstone nor the quantity, quality or type of color.
Oregon Sunstones are Labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar formed in lava flows that cover much of southeastern Oregon. Sunstone itself is found only in a small area of these flows. Within the lava flow is a matrix in which the colored sunstones are found. The sunstone flow is Basalt that can be up to several feet thick and composed of several layers, some of which have decomposed into clay leaving the crystals intact.
Feldspar crystals are found in several locations throughout the globe. The pink schiller, red, bi-colored and green varieties are currently found only in Oregon. Of the colored varieties, pink schiller is the most common. Red is quite rare. Green and multi-colored stones are very rare. Exceptionally rare is the blue-green variety.
The Oregon Sunstone was made the official Oregon State Gemstone in 1987. With a hardness of 6.2-7.5 on the Mohs scale. Oregon Sunstone Jewelry and Sunstone gemstones are an excellent investment. Oregon Sunstones are often referred to as the "Oregon Diamond".
